SARAH MESSNER

At Dartmouth, Sarah studied creative writing with an emphasis on environmental nonfiction, was a student manager at the Dartmouth Organic Farm, and led student trips with the Dartmouth Outing Club. She studied Spanish literature, history, and art at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and volunteered at an orphanage in Honduras for a term. After college, Sarah worked for two years with Partners In Health in Rwinkwavu, Rwanda, where she helped to develop an agricultural training center and food security program to address chronic malnutrition with sustainable, community-based methods. Sarah returned to the U.S. to complete her Master of Divinity at Princeton Seminary, where she studied the intersection of religion, health, and the environment. From Princeton, she moved to India to lead college semester programs in India and Nepal, and will be instructing with the Princeton Bridge Year Program (India) next year. She has led trips with Putney Student Travel in Rwanda, India, and Peru.
EMMETT PETERSON
Bates College, B.S., Chemistry
While at Bates, Emmett balanced time between chemical and biochemical laboratory research and participating as an avid council member of the Outing Club. During his junior year, he spent five months studying and traveling on homestays throughout Kenya and Tanzania. In addition, he spent a month in Uganda independently researching the socio-economic and environmental impacts of dams on the White Nile and working for a local kayaking company. For five consecutive summers Emmett has worked as a wilderness canoe trip guide in northern Ontario, Canada. As a guide he has led beginner overnight trips and month-long unsupported canoe expeditions on several major rivers throughout Ontario and Quebec. Currently, Emmett is completing a year-long biochemical laboratory thesis study on Lyme disease in preparation for graduation. Emmett is proficient in Swahili and French. This fall, Emmett is following his passion for the outdoors and working with youth to pursue a position in outdoor education.
